Energy provider TXU Energy has announced a new cooperative effort with SolarCity, a solar financing, design, and installation service, which will provide a discounted solar energy service to customers.
The program will consist of a solar lease option that will cover the installation, monitoring, and repairing of a solar energy system that will be installed on customers' houses. Under the program, a four kilowatt solar system that could power a 3-4 bedroom home would cost approximately $35 monthly with no upfront costs.
"Our solar lease provides North Texas homeowners the ability to adopt clean power for less than they previously paid for electricity, and save money from day one," said Lyndon Rive, CEO of SolarCity. "We expect this offer to significantly increase the adoption of solar power in Texas."
Linda Harper, a Republican legislator representing Irving, added that Texas's climate had always made it an ideal location for solar energy to be utilized, but that it had been limited in use because of its expensive costs.
She added that the initiative taken by TXU and SolarCity could finally make solar energy more affordable and "significantly increase the adoption of solar power in Texas."
