Solar panel recognized for innovation
Akeena Solar is highlighting an award that one of its solar panel products recently received for innovation.
A company announcement noted that its Andalay AC solar panel had received a Popular Mechanics Breakthrough Product Award, which was recently presented at a ceremony in New York City.
"For years, we've been designing solar panels that immediately cut electricity costs, deliver dependable solar power and easier to install. Andalay AC solar panels are the culmination of our efforts. Now, both experienced installers and even do-it-yourselfers can install a high performance rooftop solar power system safely and easily," said Akeena CEO Barry Cinnamon.
The announcement noted that the panels in question use micro-inverters to help move the industry closer to "true plug and play solar power." The company went on to say that the panels can be installed by homeowners themselves, because they feature up to 80 percent fewer parts and simpler wiring systems.
Overall, solar panel technology has become increasingly efficient in recent years and advanced technologies have even opened the possibility for some that can be printed onto various types of surfaces.
