Solar energy project planned for San Antonio region

Posted 2 years ago in the Solar Business category by Nate Lew
Two solar energy companies have announced a 30-year power purchase deal that will allow a planned project in Texas to move forward.

This week, CPS Energy announced that it was teaming up with Juwi Solar for the 14-megawatt photovoltaic project that will be built near San Antonio. CPS Energy reports that Juwi will install 214,500 photovoltaic panels, generating enough energy for 1,800 homes each year.

The project will be known as the Blue Wing Solar farm, and will be visible from U.S. route 181 as well as IH 37.

"The Blue Wing Solar Farm further solidifies our state and national leadership in renewable energy. We are already number one nationally in wind-energy capacity among municipally owned utilities. Renewables like solar and wind are part of our overall strategy to meet Greater San Antonio’s energy needs with diversified energy sources," said Cris Eugster of CPS Energy.

The company also noted that it had recently signed a power purchase agreement with Tessera Solar for 27 megawatts of solar energy from a project in West Texas.
